Write for us
Northern Knowledge welcomes proposals that help readers understand northern landscapes and natural materials. We are interested in focused, well-explained ideas with a clear question at their centre.
What we welcome
Pitch explanatory features, comparisons, landscape-reading pieces and considered accounts of how rocks, soils, landforms, waters or woodlands shape a place. A useful contribution gives readers a distinct subject, explains relevant terms and avoids treating a local example as a rule for every region.
What makes a good pitch
Tell us the working title, the central question, the main points you would cover and why the subject suits Northern Knowledge. Include a short note about your relevant experience or approach, but do not send confidential material. We do not accept unsupported claims, promotional copy presented as independent writing or advice that depends on unverified local conditions.
How to send a proposal
Send pitches through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. A proposal is not a guarantee of publication. Please do not send a full unsolicited manuscript unless it has been requested.
A landscape is more than a view
The shape of the ground, the nature of its materials and the movement of water all leave clues. We take time to notice how they fit together.
